Over at The Atlantic, there's an article decrying "progress". Is 'Progress' Good for Humanity? So many of these types of articles just assume that the writer would still occupy his privileged position, whether or not all this whirl of progress was present to annoy him. But if not for the Industrial Revolution, and the general civilizational uplift it spurred, hardly one person in a hundred reading that article would be alive today.
